Nigerian Cleric Primate Ayodele Claims Museveni Is Preparing Muhoozi for Power Transition, Predicts Challenges Ahead

June 20, 2026
A statement by Nigerian cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has attracted attention across Uganda and beyond after he claimed to have received a spiritual revelation regarding the country's future political leadership and the role of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Speaking during a recent sermon, the outspoken preacher alleged that he had been shown events indicating that President Yoweri Museveni is in the final stages of preparing his son, Gen. Muhoozi, for a future leadership transition.

The remarks have sparked discussion among political observers and social media users, especially given the ongoing debate about Uganda's political future.

According to Primate Ayodele, the transition process he claims to have seen in his revelation would not be straightforward. He suggested that several political and institutional challenges could emerge before any transfer of power takes place.

The cleric did not provide specific timelines regarding when the alleged transition could occur, but he warned that the process would face resistance from various quarters. He claimed that political tensions and disagreements among key actors could complicate efforts to ensure a smooth handover of leadership.

Ayodele is known across Africa for making public prophecies concerning political leaders, elections, and national affairs. Over the years, some of his predictions have attracted widespread publicity, while others have generated controversy and debate among supporters and critics.

His latest comments come at a time when Gen. Muhoozi remains one of the most discussed political figures in Uganda.

The military chief has repeatedly attracted attention through his social media posts and public statements, some of which have fueled speculation about his political ambitions.

Although Gen. Muhoozi has on several occasions expressed confidence in his ability to lead the country, he has not formally announced a presidential bid.

Nevertheless, supporters of the so-called Muhoozi Project have continued to promote him as a potential future leader, while critics argue that Uganda's leadership should be determined through open democratic competition.

President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, has not publicly declared plans to retire from politics. He remains one of Africa's longest-serving leaders and continues to play a central role in the country's political and security affairs.

Political analysts note that discussions about succession have become increasingly common as Uganda approaches future electoral cycles.

However, many observers caution that predictions and prophecies should not be treated as confirmations of political developments, as leadership transitions are ultimately determined by constitutional processes, political decisions, and the will of voters.

The comments by Primate Ayodele have generated mixed reactions online. Some social media users expressed interest in the prophecy, citing previous predictions made by the cleric.

Others dismissed the remarks, arguing that Uganda's political future cannot be accurately forecast through spiritual revelations alone.

By the time of publication, neither President Museveni nor Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba had publicly responded to the cleric's claims. Government officials had also not issued any statement regarding the alleged prophecy.
